OpenAI plans to launch an “AI agent” tool called “Operator” as early as January, per Bloomberg. Designed to perform tasks on a user’s computer, it will debut as a research preview via OpenAI’s developer API. Operator will face competition from Anthropic’s Computer Use and Google’s rumored agent, potentially serving as a general-purpose tool for web-based tasks.
The U.S. Department of Justice is reportedly considering legal action to compel Google to sell its Chrome browser, aiming to reduce the company’s dominance in search and market control. Alongside banning exclusive agreements, the DOJ may advocate for increased data transparency, AI-related regulations, and separating Android from Google’s other services, though it won’t seek a full Android divestiture. Google intends to appeal any ruling against it.
Ai2 has introduced OpenScholar, a retrieval-augmented language model designed to search for relevant research papers and generate answers based on them. This innovation aims to help scientists efficiently locate and synthesize knowledge.
